Stand Up Comedy

I’m always telling people this, but I’ll say it again. I’m in the best colloquium ever. The Humor of Comedy. During this past session Mr.Belcaster had us get into groups and make up our own stand-up bit in 40 mins. IT WAS SO HARD!!! Coming up with material on the spot was really difficult, even though we were forewarned about this in-class assignment.

After a hectic brainstorming session, my group decided that me and James Rey would perform for our group. Overall, it was a really good performance by every group — except one, and they BOMBED really badly. Although that wasn’t the funniest I, or anyone else could be, it was still a great experience. I enjoyed my part, but I can’t say the same for James. He went right after me and he froze. He skipped over quite a bit of the material and delivery styles that we rehearsed. But I was completely okay with that. James later told me that he just doesn’t like speaking in front of large groups of people, his style is focused on smaller crowds.

I realized that I’m different. I LOVE speaking in front of large audiences. When I was doing my stand up routine I was not nervous AT ALL. I was sooo relaxed up there. I just like talking to large groups of people. But maybe I’m so comfortable because I’m kinda experienced. I gave my elementary school’s valedictorian speech, and I also gave a keynote address to fellow students (and several half-billionaires) during the graduation ceremony of a summer program I once did.

Maybe stand up comedy is my calling. It’s a fun idea to entertain.
