With all these 3D TVs, I’d love it if ‘The Ring’ was re-released in 3D just to watch the scene of the girl coming out of the TV. Now that would be scary.

Home is Great
I know I’m home and not at school because of two things: 1) I was sitting underneath my blanket on a couch in my living room, and then I yawned. I thought to myself, “I’m sleepy, I’m going to take a nap.” and just like that, without worries about setting an alarm, getting up, or needing to get work done, I went to sleep. Two hours later I woke up refreshed. 2) I...

High Dynamic Range Imaging
A few weeks ago I decided to mess around in photoshop. I made two HDR pictures. Basically HDR images are where you take pictures at different exposures and then add them up to make one pic. The point of HDR is to give pictures a surreal look. Below are two pictures that I made, along with the before pics and then the result (after a bunch of editing). Kitchen Before: After: Backyard View ...

Watching Fox News
A few days ago I decided that I would watch Fox News. And I did, for one hour. Since then, every now and again I’ll turn to Fox to see what they’re saying. It’s just crazy how obviously biased their news is. But what scares me the most is their ability to convince. With such one-sided news, it’s apparent that viewers who just accept the news, without being skeptical, can be...

Ramadan
15 hours and 30 minutes. Yesterday was the first day of Ramadan and that’s how long I fasted, from 4:28AM to 7:58PM. As hard as is it is not to eat or drink from dawn till dusk, it’s just as hard to get up at 3:30 in the morning. My whole sleep schedule goes crazy now. Especially since I can’t get myself to fall asleep until 12:30AM. With 5 daily prayers plus a 2 hour visit to...

Mosquitoes
After being bitten so many times this summer, I was reading Why Mosquito Bites Itch and learned that It is not uncommon to build up a tolerance to [the itch that results from mosquito bites], if you receive enough mosquito bites regularly over an extended period of time. So now the question is, should I keep trying to avoid mosquitoes, or should I actively seek them out?

Mythbusters has been renewed by the Discovery Channel for seven more years. Adam, Jamie, Tori, Grant, and Kari just got 7-year contract extensions. So Mythbusters should last me through college and two years of graduate school. Yeah!

Fact: Did you know that the Declaration of Independence was actually signed on August 2, 1776? The text of the Declaration was approved on the 4th of July. —- How many movies can you recognize from the video below? I did very poorly and only figured out a couple out of the 35. I just got back from a weeklong road trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City. The trip was fun, and I visited the typical landmarks, museums, and took in all the sights. One of the more interesting parts of the trip was listening to the people there. I’m talking about eavesdropping. You can’t help but overhear conversations that people have on their cell phones or while talking to others. As...

Jeopardy!
This week is ‘Kids Week’ on Jeopardy. The kids range from ages 10 to 12. It’s the one week every year where you can watch Jeopardy and will actually know the answers to all the questions. It always makes me feel so smart. The same basically applies to next week when it’s ‘Teen Week’ – with contestants ages 13 to 17. A year ago I took the online Jeopardy test in hopes of appearing on Teen Jeopardy....

Graduation
An hour ago, I Googled “Graduation Quotes” and have been reading a whole bunch since. I’m trying to find that one quote that kind of sums up everything I’m feeling right now. Mostly, it’s the agony of parting. I quickly found out that “Graduation Quotes” are generally about the future, and optimism about starting something new. Before I move on to...

Collective Nouns
A group of rhinoceroses is called a ‘crash’. A group of ferrets is called a ‘business’. A group of ravens is called an ‘unkindness’. A group of apes is called a ‘shrewdness’. A group of owls is called a ‘parliament’. A group of jugglers is called a ‘neverthriving’. …interesting. (Maybe that last one refers to the...

Leaving in the Moment
“You get a strange feeling when you’re about to leave a place, like you’ll not only miss the people you love but you’ll miss the person you are now at this time and this place, because you’ll never be this way again.” - Azar Nafisi I came across this quote and I was moved. But then again, I’m beginning to be moved by anything lately since graduation is...

I came across this list of 101 Small Pleasures You Can Enjoy Every Day and I really liked it. Take a look at it. I have a few favorites on the list, but they’re all really enjoyable in general. My favorites are: 10. a genuine compliment (giving or receiving) 12. a handwritten letter 13. waking up in a good mood…for no real reason 18. laughing 32. rainy afternoons 42. a bear hug 47....

Stand Up Comedy
I’m always telling people this, but I’ll say it again. I’m in the best colloquium ever. The Humor of Comedy. During this past session Mr.Belcaster had us get into groups and make up our own stand-up bit in 40 mins. IT WAS SO HARD!!! Coming up with material on the spot was really difficult, even though we were forewarned about this in-class assignment. After a hectic...

Spring Break Goal: Learn How to Play the Harmonica
In AP last class, Mr. Snow busted out his brand new harmonic before we took our vocab test. He said that the harmonica he got usually cost $40, but he got it on sale for $9. Mr.Snow agreed that if me and Nakib bring our harmonicas next class, our class could parade down the halls of the school with our harmonicas. I plan on keeping him to his word. So step number one, buy harmonica. Step number...

Spanish Class Boredom
I would like to present part 2 of my Spanish Class Masterclass Series. It’s not as good as the last one, but it’s something. So Mrs.Torres has not been in class for a while, and so the student teacher has taken over the reins. This past class, she said we’d play a game so she divided us into groups. She asked who wanted to be score-keeper up at the board, and I quickly raised my...

The Humor of Comedy
I’m definitely in the best colloquium EVER! The Humor of Comedy. Every session we watch a whole bunch of funny videos. One session, the theme was physical comedy and this past session we started Stand Up comedy (we’re going to have to perform stand up next session. This should be fun). I have never laughed as much as I did this past colloquium. For the first time ever, my sides...
